Salisbury Street

This was an 1895 villa in the heart of the city, extensively damaged in the 2011 earthquake.

Salisbury Street has been painstakingly repaired and renovated. This included a new TC3 ring foundation/re-pile, a complete strip out, walls were taken out to create vast open plan living areas and steel beams and bracing were installed.

New front porches were built on two levels, new oak flooring was laid on all three stories, bespoke solid timber joinery was installed and double glazing was retrofitted into the existing sash windows.

An ultra-low-emission fireplace was installed as well as a drying room, oil-fired radiators are throughout the home and the iron roof was replaced.

We were able to save and restore so many heritage features in this beautiful home, including ceiling roses, original skirting boards and architraves, restoring the staircase and balustrade and re-servicing and weighting the sash windows.

We also fitted a beautiful new modern kitchen, two bathrooms and a powder room.  Modernising this home, while still respecting the heritage features of the villa have made this home functional and beautiful without compromise.

Cambridge Terrace

This house was severely damaged in the 2011 earthquakes.  It lay empty, leaking and deteriorating for over 7 years.  The new owners who purchased it in 2018 recognised the potential in the home and we worked collaboratively to realise their vision.

The entire house was lifted 100mm and the cracked and leaking exterior plaster was removed.  The building was re-clad in Abodo Eco wood cladding which is already silvering beautifully with time.  There was a major shuffle up of interior walls to maximise functionality and to give the owners the ability to have an open plan living space as well as being able to close sections off with the use of floor to ceiling cavity sliders.

Originally many of the ceilings were very low in this home, but we were able to lift the ceiling heights in the bedrooms on the third level, and above the staircase, to create more space and a better aesthetic.

As this home consists of three stories, a lift was installed in the center of the house to enable the clients to create a future-proof home that would function well into their retirement.  A stunning, floating staircase was built around the lift shaft, flanked by a floor to ceiling street frontage window.

All new internal and external windows and doors were fitted, and where a narrow balcony formally existed we built a large functional deck off the living space overlooking the sunny back yard and garden.

We were so proud to be part of making this beautiful renovation at the heart of the central city a reality for these owners.
